Prof. KWOK Kin Wing from Hong Kong Polytechnic University visited Shanghai Institute of Ceramics

Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SICCAS) and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) have been enjoying strong relationship and cooperating in the research area of ferroelectric materials.

Invited by Prof. Guorong Li, Prof. KWOK Kin Wing from PolyU visited the research group on physics of the functional ceramic materials and devices at SICCAS from May 11 to May 13, 2019.

During the visit, Prof. KWOK gave a talk entitled “Ferroelectric Ceramics with Tunable Photoluminescence”. He introduced lead-free transparent electro-optical (K0.5Na0.5)1-xLixNb1-xBixO3 ceramics, which is the first lead-free electro-optic (EO) polycrystalline ceramic with excellent transparency and strong linear electro-optic response. Prof. KWOK also had an extensive discussion with the researchers and the students on the ongoing cooperation and projects.

Prof. KWOK Kin Wing received his Ph.D. degree from PolyU, and takes up a full professorship and associate deanship at Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles in PolyU. His research focuses on processing, characterization and applications of ferroelectric materials, optoelectronic materials and photoluminescence materials. Both the actuator and sensors application, including ultrasonic transducers, hydrophones, resonators and micromachined membrane transducers, are emphasized. He has authored/co-authored more than 150 papers in the referred impacted international journals, which has received more than 3500 citations with an H-index of 35.
