Xuanyong Liu, professor of materials engineering in Shanghai Institute of Ceramic, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SICCAS). Prof. Liu received his BS and MS in materials science and engineering from Hunan University in 1996 and 1999, and Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from SICCAS in 2002. Prof. Liu was elected as the Fellow, Biomaterials Science and Engineering (FBSE) by The International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE) in 2020. He was also elected as the Fellow of Chinese Society for Biomaterials in 2023.

Prof. Liu’s primary research focus on surface and interface of biomaterials, nano-Biomaterials, bioactive and antibacterial biomaterials. He is the director of the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Research Center, the head of the Biomaterials Surface and Interface Group in SICCAS, and has published over 370 journal papers in international journals, including Nature Nanotechnology, Materials Science and Engineering R-Reports, Materials Today, Materials Horizons, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, Progress in Materials Science, especially 30 papers in the journal Biomaterials. In addition, CRC Press (Taylor and Francis Group) based in the US invite him to co-edit a book titled "Handbook of Fabrication and Processing of Biomaterials".

Prof. Liu is the chairman of the Biomaterials Surface and Interface Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society for Biomaterials (CSBM), vice-chairman of the Surface Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME), vice-chairman of Biomaterials Branch of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering (CSBE).
