The 34th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Ceramics in Medicine Hosted by the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics

From October 18 to 21, the 34th Conference and Annual Meeting of the International Society for Ceramics in Medicine (Bioceramics 34), organized by the International Society for Ceramics in Medicine and hosted by the Shanghai Institute of  Ceramics, took place at the Yangtze Radisson Collection Hotel in Shanghai.

The event brought together more than 200 participants from research institutions, medical practitioners, and enterprises from 16 countries and regions, including China, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Japan, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Brazil, Latvia, South Korea, the United States, Russia, Hong Kong(China), and Taiwan (China). The conference was chaired by Professors Jiang Chang and Chengtie Wu from the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Notable plenary speakers included Professor Changsheng Liu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the president of Shanghai University; Academician Professor Jianlin Shi from the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics; Academician Professor Yuliang Zhao from the National Center for Nanoscience; Professor Serena Best from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom; Professor Kunio Ishikawa from Kyushu University in Japan; and Professor Marc Bohner from the RMS Foundation in Switzerland. The opening ceremony featured remarks from Professor Jiang Chang, Professor Xun Shi, the Deputy Director of the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, and Professor Kunio Ishikawa, the Secretary General of the International Society for Ceramics in Medicine, while Professor Chengtie Wu chaired the opening ceremony.

This conference focused on the development and application of ceramics in medicine and related biomaterials. Experts delved into topics such as "Bioceramics for Hard Tissue Regeneration," "Bioceramics for Soft Tissue Regeneration," and "Bioceramics for Diagnosis and Treatment" in-depth. During the conference, 37 prestigious international academics were invited to deliver keynote and invited lectures, complemented by nearly 50 oral presentations and over 40 poster displays. The conference was diverse and engaging, creating a strong academic atmosphere throughout the event.

Additionally, the conference established awards such as the “Young Scientist Award” and the “Best Poster Award” to recognize innovative achievements by young researchers and outstanding students engaged in the field of bioceramics. This conference provided a vital platform for scholars, medical participants, and industrial partners from various backgrounds to exchange ideas and information related to bioceramics and discuss cutting-edge issues, effectively promoting communication among experts in related fields and playing an active role in the innovation and development of bioceramics.
