Invited by Prof. Haosu Luo, Prof. Qiming Zhang, from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Materials Research Institute of Pennsylvania State University, visited SICCAS on May 13, 2011, who is also the Guest Professor of SICCAS. He received warm welcome from the researchers and graduate students in SICCAS. During his visit, he gave a talk on “Giant Electrocaloric Effect in Ferroelectrics-A New Frontier in Ferroelectric Research with Great Impact on Energy and Environment”, introducing a giant Electrocaloric Effect (ECE) discovered in defects-modified ferroelectric polymer near FE-PE phase transition temperature, and materials considerations on how to achieve large ECE related cooling technologies.

As for Prof. Zhang’s fruitful research achievements, both sides exchanged ideas concerning the development and applications of these new materials, which were really important not only for the applications in energy and environment field but also for the fundamental ferroelectric science. Prof. Zhang also shared his valuable research experience with the young researchers, especially the graduated students.
