SICCAS-Corning Joint Research on Thermoelectric Materials and Devices

American Corning Company is the world leader in specialty glass and ceramics. It was founded in 1951 and the headquarters locates in Corning, New York. There are a total of 25,000 employees worldwide and in 2006 the revenues reach $5.2 Billion.

On October 22, 2007, a delegation of Corning Company led by Mr Eric Musser, CEO Corning greater China, visited our institute and signed a joint research contract with our institute about thermoelectric materials. The director of Shanghai Institute of ceramics, Prof. Hong-Jie Luo, welcomed them and introduced our institute to the guests. Mr Eric Musser reviewed the great developments they have made since their first investment in Shanghai, China in 1980 and then Mr Youchun Shi introduced the current research proceeding of Corning R&D center and their new technologies to us.

Thermoelectric technology is an important and useful technology and has extensive potential applications such as TE power generation, TE refrigeration, recovery of waste heat energy from automobile engines. Based on the previous research, our institute has accumulated much experience and Corning Company feels very optimistic about the joint research.

 After the signing contract ceremony, accompanied by vice-director Li-Dong Chen, the guests visited the laboratory and the thermoelectric group.
