Scientists from SICCAS attended the 8th Technical Committee meeting of ISO TC 107

The 8th Technical Committee meeting of ISO (International Organization for Standardizations) TC 107 (Technical Committee for Metallic and Other Inorganic Coatings) was held in Industrial Technology Institute of Finland, Helsinki, Finland from Feb. 25 to March 3, 2007. As the formal representatives of Chinese delegation, Prof. Zheng Xuebin and Associate Professor Zeng Yi from SICCAS attended the TC 107 technical meeting.

ISO is a global network that identifies international standards required by business, government and industries, as well as a federation of the national standards bodies of 157 countries from all regions of the world. Each ISO member is the principal standards organization in its country. The scope of TC 107 includes:

(1) Standardization of the characteristics of protective and decorative metallic coating applied by electrolysis, fusion, vacuum or chemical means, mechanical deposition, ion plating;
(2) Standardization of the characteristics of protective and decorative non-metallic coatings (excluding paints and other organic coatings) on metal surface applied by electrolysis, fusion, vacuum or chemical means;
(3) Standardization of testing and inspection methods for such coatings.

Scientists in the field of metallic and inorganic coatings from German, U.K, France, Italy, Switzerland, Netheland, Portugal, Finland, Japan, Korea and China were invited to attend the meeting. As the secretaries of working group 1 and 3, Prof. Zheng Xuebing and Dr. Zeng Yi took part in the discussion about the adoption and amendment for the international standards in the field of thermal spraying coatings. They suggested the next meeting of working group 1 to be held in Beijing this May during the International Conference of Thermal Spraying, so as to have detailed discussion after great revision on the porosity measurement draft which was strongly against by German delegation. They also discussed with the Chair and general secretary of TC 107 about the possibility of holding TC 107 meeting in 2009 by Shanghai institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Science.
