The Biomaterials Surface & Interface Group belonging to the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Research Center was founded in 2006. The research group is led by Professor Xuanyong Liu and the research interests are focused on surface modification of biomedical materials and devices as well as the biological responses of these materials. In 2011, Prof. Liu, as the first completed person, was awarded the first prize in the Shanghai natural science award for "Research on the surface plasma modification and biocompatibility of medical titanium alloy". The group has 10 research staff including 1 Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 1 Postdoc, 5 Engineers and 11 PhD students and 14 master students.
