Academician, CAS, Jingkun Guo

Prof. Guo, born in Xinhui County, Guangdong Province, in November 1933, is a celebrated inorganic chemist and materials scientist.  He was graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Fudan University in 1958.  He was elected to be a member of WAC in 1990, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991 and member of the Third World Academy of Sciences in 1999.  He was director of Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, CAS, and now he is chairman of the Academic Committee of Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, CAS.

In 1960s, he was engaged in the ceramic-to-metal seal research.  The research was applied to multi-ceramic-to-metal seal that successfully solved the key problems during the development of Electro Vacuum.  In 1970s, Prof. Guo took part in the researches on enhancing and toughening ceramic materials.  His theory on fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites has been applied to the space technology in our country.  In the late 1980s, Prof. Guo began to take on the researches on multiphase ceramic composite.  In 1990s, he devoted himself to nano-ceramic researches, high performance ceramics and superfine microstructures researches.  He was involved in and organized the research and development efforts for China’s first diesel engine with several ceramic parts.

Prof. Guo has issued about 14 books and 360 papers.  He has educated some 50 doctor and master students.
