The Biomaterials Surface & Interface Group was founded in 2006. The research is focused on surface modification of biomedical materials and devices. The group has 6 research staff including 1 Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 Professor, 2 Associate Professor, 1 Assistant Professors, 2 Engineers and some PhD students and master students.
The group has developed some novel bioactive coatings, including wollastonite, dicalcium silicate, nano-TiO2 and nano-ZrO2 coatings, which possess excellent bioactivity and biocompatibility as well as high bonding strength to Ti-6Al-4V substrate. In addition, we have investigated the Si-, Ag-, Zn-, Cu-, Ca-, P- and Na-ion implantation for improving the bioactivity, biocompatibility and antibacterial property of titanium alloys and PEEK. We have also investigated the potential application of graphene film in clinic.
