In response to Professor Shiwei Wang and Professor Shaorong Wang’s invitation, Senior Scientist Nielsen from Denmark Risø National Lab visited Shanghai Institute of Ceramics on October 19th, 2009. Professor Nielsen present a lecture named “Fuel Cell and Solid State Chemistry division at Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy” during this visit.

Dr. Nielsen is a project director of the fuel cell and solid state chemistry division of Risø National Laboratory where sustainable energy materials are the main research and development fields. During the one-hour presentation, Dr. Nielsen introduced the research fields, funding support, human resource arrangement, and international cooperation in the fuel cell and solid state chemistry division. Specifically, he showed the updated research progress of fuel cell and explained how different technical parameters affect the performance of fuel cell. The lecture was brilliant and informative which showed us the cutting edge achievement and application prospect in this field. Professor Shiwei Wang introduced the research in our institute and the transparent alumina group afterwards. Also, Professor Shaorong Wang introduced the energy material layout in our institute and the research progress in the SOFC group.

After the presentations, Prof. Nielsen took a lab tour around the transparent alumina laboratory and the SOFC laboratory. Later then, they discussed the forming and processing of a ceramic part used in fuel cell. They also expressed the desire for further research collaboration.
