Prof. Meilin Liu visited SICCAS

On invitation of Prof. S.R. Wang (Energy materials center, SICCAS), Prof. Meilin Liu (Georgia Institute of Technology, US) visited SICCAS on June 6,and presented an academic report on “Probing and mapping SOFC electrode reactions using in situ Raman spectroscopy". Prof. T.-L. Wen and part of energy material research personnel as well as graduate students attended the meeting and carried on an active discussion about the application of Raman spectroscopy to SOFC electrode reactions. The in situ observation of the intermediate reaction species helps to understand the rate limiting step of the electrode reaction and the mechanism of the performance degradation. The presentation is very helpful for improving the stability and performance of SICCAS SOFC stacks.

Prof. Liu is an eminent scientist in SOFC and related fields. His research interests include defects and transport in solids, electro-physical and electro-chemical behavior of thin films and interfaces, solid state ionics, and electro-ceramics. He received his MS and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from University of California at Berkeley. Now Liu is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Co-Director of the Center for Innovative Fuel cell and Battery Technologies at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia. He is a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Research Program Development Award (Georgia Tech, 2003), Sustained Research Award (Sigma Xi, 2003),Best Faculty Paper Award (Ga. Tech,1999), and a National Young Investigator Award (NSF, 1993-98).
